Are rubber bands still used for people with braces? What do they do exactly?

Rubber bands or elastics are often worn when we start to correct the bite or start to close space in extraction cases. They are worn either full or part time, and often are attached by you from the upper brace to the lower brace to move the teeth into the correct position. They can be removed for eating, tooth-brushing and won’t interfere with speech and rarely cause discomfort.
