Are there any long-term risks of using Botox? Does your face ever build up a sort of immunity to it?

Botox has been used in clinical medicine since the 1980s. It is one of the most effective treatments for conditions such as blephrospasm that causes spasm like contractions of the muscles around the eyes. Many of these patients we see in the hospital and have had Botox treatments for 20 years or more. Although a minority of patients can develop an immune reaction that makes the Botox less effective, it is actually uncommon even when used for a long period. Like any substance, it is possible to be allergic to Botox, however this is not usually a problem, as there is more that one manufacturer of Botox and allergies tend to be only to one type.
