I've heard people rant and rave about their chemical peel. My only concern is about the duration of its effects. Post chemical peel, how long do the effects last for?

Chemical peels are a very useful way of rejuvenating one's appearance. The older more wrinkled and blemished skin is replaced with younger and fresher underlying skin. Peels last for many months, and their effect is dependent on their strength and depth of effect. By taking precautions to avoid the sun, the effects of the peel are extended for a longer period.

Will I need to use any specific type of lotions or creams during or after my chemical peel procedure?

The skin peels are very effective at freshening up the skin by enabling the newer skin to be seen as the older skin peels off. To keep the fresher skin in a healthy state we really encourage wearing sun protection after the peel, to maximize the peel's benefits. Deep peels often require other emollient creams that increase comfort and reduced the initial inflammation that may occur shortly after the peel

My sister recently had a chemical peel and her skin was red and dry during the process. Was this part of the chemical peel or a negative reaction?

The body's natural response to a chemical peel is a to trigger a mild inflammatory response in the skin that is represented by redness. This is often followed by peeling of the very superficial layers of the skin, to uncover the fresh rejuvenated skin below. The level of redness and discomfort after the procedure is determined by the strength of the peel and the skin type.

How long does it take to get a chemical peel? I heard that you need several treatments.

There are a whole range of chemical peels that differ in both the depth of the peel, one or a course of treatments and with a range of products. We find that peels are best tailored to an individuals needs. Some patients would prefer only a single treatment and maximum results, this patient would be best suited to a deep peel, which will have more immediate effect although the redness in the initial period and peeling will be more pronounces.

I want the strongest physician strength peel that would be suitable for my skin type. I am Irish and right now have a face loaded with freckles. I am 37 years old and want to have smoother skin. What type of peel would you recommend for me? How long will my face be red afterwards?

Fair colored skin is very suitable for peels, however the dept of the peel should be tailored to individuals needs and lifestyle. Although a deep peel will have greater effect in rejuvenating the skin, it is associated with more peeling of the skin and downtime after the peel.

I have many age spots on my forehead and cheeks. Otherwise I don't look too bad for a 76-year-old grandpa. I would like to reduce the appearance of these pigmented spots. Can a chemical peel do this and what would the recovery time be?

Ageing spots are very common in the skin and often occur as a result of previous wear and tear changes including damage from the sun. A chemical peel can be very effective on removing ageing spots and freshening up ones experience.
