Do i have to wear a retainer?

Submitted by admin on May 22, 2014

What is the importance of wearing retainers after orthodontic treatments?

The most important stage of orthodontic treatment is retention. When the braces are removed, the teeth naturally want to move back into their original positions in varying degrees. The teeth will form new ‘fibre attachments’ into their new positions but this takes time as it’s a natural healing process. Retainers will ‘hold’ the teeth in their new positions and reduce the risk of movement (known as relapse) while the new fibre attachments are forming. Throughout our lives, the teeth will move in varying degrees but retainers ensure that you are able to maintain your new great smile.
