Orthodontist

Submitted by admin on January 3, 2010

Is it necessary to have an orthodontist do my braces? Can my family dentist do this?

An orthodontist has undergone three further years of specialist training during which time they have often carried out a Masters degree and following this a further specialist examination set by The Royal College of Surgeons to attain their Membership in Orthodontics. They are then able to register as a Specialist on the General Dental Council. During this time, they have treated a number of cases and gained a wide range of experience during their training in hospital. A family dentist has not carried out any further specialist orthodontic training.
