What is the best age for a child to get braces?

Submitted by admin on January 26, 2010

What is the best age for a child to get braces? My daughter needs braces on both her upper and lower teeth. She has a strong overbite. She is 12 years old.

Your daughter is at the average age for braces, but there is no best chronological age. Brace treatment age is more dependent on dental age – i.e. once or when nearly all the adult teeth have erupted. I would recommend that your daughter is assessed by an orthodontist now to see if she is ready to start brace treatment.
