I am terrified of needles but I still want to pursue Botox injections

Written by Dr. Chaw Su Kyi on December 22, 2010

I am terrified of needles but I still want to pursue Botox injections. I think that is the best way to treat my frown lines from what I have read online. Do the injections hurt? If so, is there any topical anesthetic that you can give me so that they don't.

Sorry to hear about your fear, but please be assured we don’t think any of our patients ‘look forward’ to that part of the procedure! Quite a number of our patients have similar concerns. The first thing to say is we are able to put some local numbing anaesthetic cream on your skin beforehand so you won’t be able to feel anything. Also, the tip of the needle used to give botox is very small and considerably smaller than conventional. If you have ever scratched yourself with a safety pin, it’s a similar feeling to that, but with a big difference in outcome – younger looking skin!
