I love your Invisalign® braces

Written by Dr. Chaw Su Kyi on February 12, 2010

I love your Invisalign® braces. I am interested in pursuing this option for braces. I am 37 years old and a professional man in the clothing business. Do these braces affect speech at all? If I have to remove them during the day, say when holding a meeting, does that slow down the speed at which the teeth are straightened?

It’s great to hear you’ve fallen in love with braces – just like us! Invisalign braces are a good brace option in a number of cases, however some more severe cases may not be suitable for treatment with Invisalign. In answering your concerns with speech – you may have an initial lisp during the first week of wearing Invisalign, but this disappears very quickly. Although you can take the aligners out, they really only work well if worn close to full-time, i.e only removed for eating and cleaning, really you should wear them 20 hours a day. I would not recommend that you remove them during the day. You will find, because they are nearly invisible braces and also comfortable, you shouldn’t need to remove them for your meetings. You will forget that you are wearing braces.
