My 9-year-old’s upper teeth are very crowded

Written by Dr. Chaw Su Kyi on January 6, 2010

My 9-year-old’s upper teeth are very crowded. Will her jaw grow as she gets older and resolve this problem. If not, is this fixed with braces?

Crowding is a very common reason to have brace treatment. The upper jaw will grow a small amount over the next few years, but if your daughter’s teeth are already very crowded, there is unlikely to be enough growth to accommodate all the teeth. Brace treatment will resolve the crowding and is quite likely extractions may also be required.
